This beginners’ course is designed for people who want to use Vietnamese to communicate with family and friends, with people in the workplace, for travel purposes and for a better understanding of Vietnamese people through cultural insights and inter-cultural skills.

The course covers the following topics:

  • Greetings and farewelling people
  • Introducing yourself and others
  • Ordering food in restaurant
  • Asking for and giving personal details
  • Asking and giving directions
  • Asking for prices and bargaining

Students will be introduced to the Vietnamese sound system.
Grammar is taught in the context of using the language for a specific purpose.

By the end of this course students should be able to:

  • understand and use simple colloquial Vietnamese to give and exchange basic information;
  • have a basic grasp of the sound system;
  • introduce themselves and others and use basic expressions for meeting, greeting and farewelling;
  • engage in simple conversations and exchange information about themselves and their families;
  • use basic expressions for thanking and apologising;
  • ask for the name of something and indicate when failure to understand;
  • have an understanding and appreciation of the values and customs of Vietnamese people;
  • read a short dialogue.

IF YOU HAVE HAD SOME PREVIOUS EXPOSURE TO THE LANGUAGE, YOU NEED TO CONTACT CAE FOR A FREE SKILL ASSESSMENT PRIOR TO ENROLLING.

Ideal for people who want a basic introduction to the language. Our aim is to help learners to be able to command basic structures and useful colloquial expressions in a shortest time.

Practice makes perfect in acquiring any new skills. CAE language teachers provide many opportunities in class for conversation practice to build fluency and confidence.
Students are encouraged to participate in class activities, furthering skills in both speaking and listening. It is highly recommended that they devote at least 2 hours per week to study outside class time.
Students are also encouraged to read, listen to radio programs and watch TV programs in the language whenever possible.
