• Complete a portrait of the head using graphite pencil to create line and tone.

• Block in the structure of the head using line on a grey toned ground

• Develop a self-portrait, using erasers to establish highlights and light tones and develop shadows in compressed charcoal

At the completion of this course you will have produced both portraits and a self-portrait by creating a series of drawings that explore how to measure proportion and block-in basic shapes using line. You will have learnt how to draw form using descriptive line, how to analyse lighting on the face and how to create facial structure with tone.
