Course Summary

This one-day course offers students hands-on experience in using their own overlocker to its fullest capacity. Learn all aspects of overlocker including threading, tension adjustment, seams and hems. BYO overlocker.

This course covers general overlocker advice and maintenance, threading (scratch/pull through), altering tension details, altering stitch width and length, differential feed, starting and finishing seams, corners (inner/outer), circles and ovals starting and stopping, rib application, elastic application, rolled hems and flat locking.

Students will be able to maintain and work their overlocker expertly, using various settings for different applications. You will be able to use your overlocker in a variety of situations without the added expense of attachments. This class is suitable for students who have their own overlocker at home or who have recently purchased the machine and would like further knowledge about its operation.

Students must bring their own overlocker and all tools and attachments, plus a print-out of the instruction booklet. (If you don’t have a printer, let us know well in advance so we can have a booklet printed for you).

Please make sure that your overlocker has been serviced and is in good working order.

At enrolment, please provide us with the brand and model of your overlocker, so we can be familiar with it prior to class.

Also please bring:

  • Overlocker threads:

All students must bring their overlockers to class properly threaded, even if it is just factory threaded. You do not need to thread them at home using the different colours as we will do this in class.  This way we can be sure that the machines are either new and in working order or they have been serviced and are in working order.

Students must bring an original hard copy of their overlocking manuals to class. If you are using a photocopied version, the photocopies must be of high quality so that the instructions and the threading points are legible. Accessing the manuals on your phone is not acceptable.
