Course Summary

Mandarin Elementary 2 is designed for students who have completed Elementary 1. The course content has been selected to suit prospective travellers, people wanting to interact with Melbourne’s Chinese-speaking community or those who would like to try learning a new language for enjoyment or cultural insight.

The content is presented in an accessible, friendly and inclusive manner and opportunities are provided throughout classes for students to communicate in Mandarin.

The following topics are covered in this course:

  • Chinese zodiacs
  • Family and family members (Kinship terms)
  • Names of stationery
  • Time
  • Days of the week
  • Years, months and dates
  • Weather and seasons

By the end of this course students should be able to:

  • introduce themselves and others and use basic expressions for meeting, greeting and farewelling;
  • engage in simple conversations and exchange information about families, work, daily routines, hobbies and interests;
  • use basic expressions for thanking and apologising;
  • deal with the basic needs of customers in shops and restaurants;
  • demonstrate basic knowledge of some social customs;
  • write basic sentences on topics such as family, work or hobbies.

Mandarin Elementary 1 or the equivalent of about 20 hours of previous study.

IF YOU HAVE NOT COMPLETED THE PREVIOUS LEVEL AT CAE, YOU NEED TO CONTACT CAE FOR A SKILL ASSESSMENT PRIOR TO ENROLLING.
