French Elementary 4 is a course designed for continuing beginners who wish to learn to speak, read, write and understand basic French used in everyday situations for enjoyment and cultural insight. The content of the course has been selected to suit prospective travelers, people wanting to interact socially with the French-speaking community both in Melbourne and overseas.
Outcomes
By the end of this course the student will be able to:
- talk about time and daily schedules
- talk about daily activities and habits
- talk about our day at work
- talk about outings, offer to make an outing
- accept or refuse an invitation
Course Content
This course covers general topics such as:
- use of time markers when talking about time of the day
- formal and informal time
- reflexive verbs to talk about daily habits: se lever, se doucher, …
- use of reflexive pronouns to talk about daily habits: me, te, se, …
- introduction to other -re verbs: lire, écrire
- use of parfois, souvent, jamais, toujours to talk about how frequently you do some activities
- introduction to other -oir verbs: pouvoir, devoir et vouloir …
- introduction to other -ir verbs link with going out: choisir, sortir
- different ways of asking questions – formal & informal
- accepting and refusing an invitation to go out:
- Introduction to l’impératif présent to invite someone and give instructions
Prerequisites
French Elementary 3 or equivalent of about 40 – 60 hours of previous study
IF YOU HAVE NOT COMPLETED THE PREVIOUS LEVEL AT CAE, YOU NEED TO CONTACT CAE FOR A SKILL ASSESSMENT PRIOR TO ENROLLING.
