Course Summary

For absolute beginners, this course provides a relaxed and enjoyable introduction to some basic principles of drawing and materials. Students will draw from still-life arrangements in the studio and learn to draw 3D objects on a 2D picture plane, discovering how to plan and draw a simple composition. Explore line, tone, shading and proportion and discover easy and effective ways to build confidence and personal expression. No experience is necessary and all materials are included in the fee.

Carolyn Large

This course has been designed for the beginner with little or no drawing experience. The course is a mix of theory and practical activities to learn basic drawing skills, that will provide a solid base for the student to either continue development at home or perhaps explore the option of other more advanced or specialist drawing courses.

Carolyn Large is a practising artist located in the beautiful Macedon Ranges. As a member of the Sunbury Art Society, Macedon Ranges Art Trail and the Woodend Art Group she has participated in a number of exhibitions including Trentham, Woodend, Sunbury and the Melbourne City Council. Carolyn specialises in pet portrait commission work, portraits and landscapes, working primarily in pastel, charcoal and acrylic paint mediums. Carolyn also works as a textile artist, specialising in needle felting. She has achieved commercial success in both 3-D and 2-D felting and continues to expand her skills in “painting” with wool to produce works of beauty that reflect the natural environment

 

Dr Anne Bennett is an experienced visual artist, curator and educator. Anne, whose practice encompasses drawing, printmedia, painting, artists books, and curatorial projects, holds a PhD in Visual Art from Monash University and Master of Art Curatorship from the University of Melbourne.

She has held in excess of 15 solo exhibitions since 1986 including Tolarno Galleries, Pinacotheca, numerous institutional galleries around Australia and an exhibition of large scale monotypes at the Post Office Gallery at Federation University, Ballarat and a performative installation of drawings at The Front, Docklands. She has also participated in excess of 70 group exhibitions, including curated shows at National Gallery of Victoria and galleries in Korea, China, Lithuania and UK.
