Course Summary
Beginning Creative Writing Advanced follows on from CAEs popular Beginning Creative Writing, allowing students to further broaden and practice their skills.
This course begins with a reminder of the fundamentals of great storytelling, first covered in Beginning Creative Writing, then aspiring writers will be then given further opportunity to both practise and workshop.
In addition, the following genres will be covered:
- Personal narratives, using dual perspectives
- Poetry, experimenting with more complex triggers
- Short stories, writing in a different tense
- Fairytales, reworking classic plots
- Science fiction and fantasy
- Romantic fiction
Who is this course for?
This course is perfect for students who have previously studied creative writing in some capacity (such as Beginning Creative Writing at CAE or similar courses) but do not yet feel ready to specialise in one form i.e. short story, poetry. It’s great for giving and recieving feedback on your writing, and to meet other like-minded writing enthuasists in a comfortable, nurturing environment.

Megan Waters has been teaching at the CAE for close to 20 years. Her passion for writing has been life-long, ever since she wrote her first published story at age 10. She loves sharing her experience with new and advanced writers, both in creative ways, and in non-fiction, and hearing the diverse stories of Melbourne’s inhabitants.
