Course Summary

This course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive introduction to Arabic letters and sounds. It is based on the book “Mastering Arabic 1 – 4th Edition” and aims to develop the students’ skills in reading, writing, and pronouncing Arabic letters. Throughout the course, students will learn the Arabic alphabet, letter forms, and basic phonetics. By the end of the course, students will be able to recognise and pronounce Arabic letters accurately and confidently.

Arabic Elementary 1 aims to equip beginners with the ability to understand, speak, and read Modern Standard Arabic confidently. 

Course Objectives and Structure:

  • The course focuses on developing the four key language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
  • The course uses a gradual, step-by-step approach, introducing the Arabic script from the beginning and building knowledge progressively.
  • Covering basic pronunciation, grammar, sentence structure, and vocabulary related to everyday situations and Quranic verses. Topics include greetings, family, descriptions of places, professions, directions, likes and dislikes, shopping, food, weather, daily routines, and more.
  • Students will gain insights into Arabic-speaking societies and how the language reflects their culture

Learning Outcomes:

  • Communicate in familiar situations using frequently used expressions.
  • Understand basic grammar and sentence construction.
  • Read and compose short dialogues and notes.
  • Apply strategies for understanding texts.
  • Interact about familiar topics.
  • Write simple texts related to immediate needs.

Prerequisites

This course is for beginners. No prior knowledge of Arabic is required.

This Arabic course is also suited to those who speak some Arabic but have not had the opportunity to learn the written script. It caters to people who wish to communicate with friends and family members and those who enjoy the intellectual challenge of mastering a new language.
