Course Summary

An exciting course that will introduce you to the men and women who made Egypt one of the most powerful civilizations in the ancient world. Find the reasons for the rise of a state that began with the building of monumental pyramids, tombs and temples. Follow the rise and fall of various dynasties from the Old Kingdom, through the time of regicide in the Middle Kingdom, the glittering period of the New Kingdom when Warrior Pharaohs walked the earth and to the reigns of the murderous, despotic Ptolemies who were finally defeated by the might of the Roman Empire.

Forensic Egyptologist, Dr Janet Davey of Monash University, explores a subject that continues to fascinate us in the 21st Century. For other information on Dr Davey’s forensic work, take a look at this article about a recent discovery in New South Wales. Also, Janet is featured in episode 2 of a recent ABC documentary series Stuff the British Stole, viewable on ABC iView.
