Course Summary
Join tour guide, Isabel Simpson as she explores Clifton Hill, named by land speculator John Hanlon Knipe. The co-founder of Melbourne, John Pascoe Fawkner, purchased land here in 1851. Today ‘Quarry Park’ from the late 1840’s provided much of the bluestone for Melbourne’s lanes. We acknowledge surveyor Clement Hodgkinson for its wonderful wide streets.
We view intact bluestone contractors and Cordial Manufacturers residences, former boot factories, today repurposed as apartments and a former leather goods factory. There were many private schools, residences of trade unionists, and politicians and we pass the imposing Italianate former Royal Hotel.
Currently, we have no dates scheduled for this course. Please contact us via email enquiries@cae.edu.au to register your interest.
