Course Summary

A beautiful keepsake – hand-stitched by you

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn the ancient craft of bookbinding and focus on the Coptic style (often used to bind religious documents).
Created by the ancient Egyptians, the Coptic style of binding is a timeless way to create a book with a visible spine stitch and a hardback cover. Perfect for visual diaries, photo albums, digital media portfolios, and a host of other applications!

We’ll start with the basics, discussing materials and various tools required, then jump straight into learning the technique behind the trademark Coptic spine stitch. This style resembles a chain stitch as used in embroidery and creates a book that has each page open perfectly flat. Once we’ve covered the basics, you’ll spend the rest of the session binding and crafting your own bespoke hardcover book to take home.
No experience is necessary and all materials are provided.
