Course Summary

This workshop will appeal to those who have a completed manuscript already, or are in the middle of one. It is not a ‘how to write’ class as it covers the following:
•      Understanding genre expectations. Does your manuscript hit the right notes?
•      What to include when pitching to an agent or publisher.
•      How to nail your high concept in one paragraph.
•      Common pitfalls related to your manuscript, synopsis, back-cover blurb, as well as what to beware of when signing a publishing contract.
•      How much does self-publishing cost? What are the breakdown costs for editing, cover design, printing, and where to outsource?
•      What self-publishing platforms, tools and aggregators are available for a new author? (Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, BookVault, Draft2Digital.).
•      How to attract reviews.
•      Do you need an ISBN and where to obtain one?
•      What else to consider, either legal or desirable.

Beverley Eikli is the author of 39 novels (historical romance, mystery and suspense, women’s fiction, and non-fiction). She has published under three pen names, with multiple traditional publishers as well as self-published. She is in the process of launching a new Africa-set romantic suspense series featuring a bush pilot in the 1980 and 1990s, mostly set in Botswana’s Okavango Delta based on her experiences working with hunters and photographers while managing several safari camps. She married a Norwegian bush pilot she met there and clocked up 5,000 hours working in the back of low-level survey aircraft on contracts throughout Africa, South America and Greenland. This workshop outlines all the steps she is using to launch a brand new name and series. Publishing is constantly changing so she has lots of up-to-date information on how to publish and find one’s readers.
