Course Summary

Develop the knowledge to build a concept, explore fashion illustration styles, gain skills in rough sketching and apply 2D illustration techniques. 

In this hands on short course for beginners, learners will:

  • Practice sketching basic poses and experimenting with different body proportions
  • Learn to depict various fabrics and textures realistically
  • Gain insights into the principles of colour theory and how they apply to fashion illustration
  • Explore different colouring mediums such as markers and pencils
  • Develop techniques for blending and layering to produce realistic colour gradients
  • Ultimately, develop the confidence to sketch stunning garments!

This is an introductory course into the fascinating world of fashion sketching and design, and includes:  

  • Exploring different styles of fashion illustration
  • Introduction to basic drawing tools and materials
  • Sketching techniques: lines, shapes, proportions
  • Drawing the fashion figure: croquis
  • Techniques for illustrating various fabrics (silk, denim, fur, etc.)
  • Exploring shading and highlighting to create texture
  • Combining different design elements to create unique looks

About Fashion Designer Megha Bakshi

As a passionate educator with a doctorate in Fashion Technology and a Master's degree in Clothing & Textiles, Megha has over 8 years of experience in teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Her expertise lies in various subjects related to Fashion Technology, Fashion Illustration, Visual Merchandising, Fashion Retail Planning & Merchandising, and Pattern Making. Megha is driven to contribute to program outcomes by facilitating engagement and supporting learning objectives. She is known for her approachable demeanor, excellent attention to detail, and providing great support to both teachers and students.

•       A4 White Parchment Paper
•       A4 Artist Tracing Paper Pad
•       0.5 Clutch pencil 
•       0.3/0.5 Black Microtip pen (UniPin Fine Line)
•       24 Shade Coloured Pencils (Brand: Staedtler/Derwent Watercolour pencil/Faber-Castell)
•       Stationary (12 inches transparent scale, eraser, 2B Hb pencil, paper-cutting scissors) 
•       Watercolour (optional for those who can use them)
•       Swimwear Magazines
