Celebrate the Women In Your Life
It’s been a decade since Galentine’s Day was first celebrated during an episode of the popular TV comedy series Parks and Recreation. Maybe you’re wondering, what is Galentine’s Day? It’s the combination of the words Gal and Valentine, and a day to celebrate female friendships. Galentine’s Day takes place on the 13th of February and has become welcome alternative to Valentine’s Day which takes place the following day.
Although Valentine’s Day has ancient roots and can be traced back to the Roman Empire, the meaning has changed significantly over centuries and the holiday is sometimes controversial. Many people argue it is just a commercial event that places unnecessary pressure on relationships, and as an author, Rachel Gibson says: “It’s the one day each year when being single is a sin.”
It’s no surprise that Galentine’s Day has gained widespread recognition as a legitimate holiday. More and more people opt to celebrate it each year and the day was officially added to the Merriam-Webster dictionary in 2022.
Unlike Valentine’s Day, there is no right or wrong way to spend Galentine’s Day, it can be any activity or time spent with your female friend, sister, aunt, mother or daughter. It’s all about celebrating the women in your life and empowering one another.
