Learn flower-arranging using traditional and contemporary techniques. This course will introduce you to flower identification, preparation and maintenance. Students will use a mix of seasonal flowers and foliage used by floral designers.

  • Learn flower arranging in a variety of styles using both traditional and contemporary techniques.
  • You will be introduced to flower identification and preparation techniques
  • Learn maintenance techniques and how to extend the life and quality of your arrangement
  • Use a mixture of flowers and foliage which are widely available and used by floral designers
  • Learn about focal flowers, secondary flowers, filler flowers, and foliage in seasonal varieties
  • Ideas for other arrangements will be workshopped and demonstrated
  • Hands on work where you explore different techniques and find your own personal style

Participants will be able to use these skills to make arrangements at home. Course format is demonstration followed by practical exercises. Students will create up to three arrangements such as a table centre piece, a festive wreath and a wrapped gift featuring flowers.

Students take home completed Christmas-themed arrangements, as well as gaining skills that may be used for other arrangements completed at home, post-course.

All floral materials and vessels are provided as part of the course.

  • Please bring a towel, pen, notepad, a pair of glovres and flower snips.
  • Please bring a gift or bottle of wine to be wrapped with flowers.
  • During the course you will create arrangements to transport home. Please consider this when organising transport.
  • Either bring your own lunch or buy from Box Hill shops (during 1-hour lunch break) just a 10-minute walk.

The course will assist people wishing to gain skills to arrange flowers more effectively for hobby and the home environment, as well as assisting them in ways to improve their practice autonomously. The course is also for people considering a career in floristry, providing an insight into the industry, though it is not designed for entry into the floristry industry.
