Greek Elementary 1 is a course designed for beginners who wish to learn to speak, read and understand basic Greek used in everyday situations.

Communication topics:

  • Greetings;
  • Introducing yourself and others;
  • Exchanging personal information: names; country, region or town of origin; profession; 
  • Counting and using numbers.

Grammar topics:

  • Introduction to the Greek alphabet;
  • Introduction to writing and reading Greek;
  • The definite article, nouns and personal pronouns;
  • Grammatical formality;
  • Grammatical gender;
  • The prepositions
  • Some common regular verbs 
  • Possessives.

On completion of the course students will be able to:

  • Confidently share personal information about themselves and ask similar information of other people in both formal and informal settings
  • Communicate with confidence when meeting people, making introductions and saying goodbye;
  • Read and write basic Greek using the Greek script.

No prior knowledge of Greek is required.

The course is ideal for people who intend to travel to Greece for business or leisure or for those who want a basic introduction to the language and culture and who wish to communicate with friends, family members, colleagues and people in the Greek community.
