Introduction to Microsoft Word:

  • Opening and editing a document, working with text, using templates
  • Formatting text and paragraphs with bullet points and numbering, indents, spacing, borders and shading
  • Page numbers, headers and footers
  • Finalising a document, checking spelling and grammar
  • Additional functions including: Tables, Clip Art, WordArt, Mail Merge

Introduction to Microsoft Excel:

  • Navigating worksheets and tabs, moving around cells, typing text
  • Saving, opening and editing a workbook
  • Formulas, functions, references
  • Formatting, printing and page setup
  • Charts and tables

At the completion of this course you will be able to:

Microsoft Word 

  • Create a new document, or open and revise an existing document
  • Format text including fonts, font sizes and text colour
  • Format paragraphs including alignments, spacing, bullets and numbering
  • Print a document, amend page setup and printing options
  • Insert a table or pictures
  • Use spell check and grammar check
  • Use Mail Merge

Microsoft Excel

  • Create and modify a spread sheet
  • Use basic formulas and functions including SUM, AVERAGE, MAX, COUNT, MIN, NOW, TODAY and IF
  • Understand and use Relative and Absolute cell addressing
  • Create and modify charts

Introduction to Personal Computers and the Internet or equivalent knowledge of basic computing functions.

Please bring pen, paper and USB stick (to save your work between classes) to each session.
